About Indian Sari (Sarees)

The Indian saree is quite synonymous with rich and cultural heritage. Its origins have been found 5000 years ago, in the Vedas and mentioned in the literature around 3000 B.C. Throughout India it is worn in 15 styles depending on the region it comes from. It has remained in fashion due to its quaint disparity in color, fabric, prints, and especially price.

The designer saree is one of the most coveted apparels for many Indian women. Being a loose, un-stitched garment, it can be worn by women of all sizes. Sarees are made of fabrics like cotton, silk, handloom made, chiffon, benarasi, crepe, georgette and net. The premium ones are the bridal wear, designer pieces. These are beautifully embellished with sparkling crystals, gemstones and creative hand and machine embroidery.

Ladies dressed in Sari reflects women's style, grace, sense and elegant. Saree enhances an increases the beauty, personality and importance as a lady. It is important to drape a Sari in proper manner so as to look perfectly dressed. Properly dressed Sari has greater appearance.

The Indian saree fabric roughly measures 115 x 420 cms. It takes roughly six yards to drape the entire body. Since it is unstitched, it can take the shape of the contours beautifully. A blouse forms the upper garment to cover the chest. The waist is left tantalizingly free. History records epic stories of sarees. The apparel represents a woman's morality-take for instance the case of Queen Draupadi who was humiliated in front of all the elders. Her never ending saree saved her from insult and injury. Today, an Indian saree is used fashionably as a formal and casual wear. The trick lies in its drapery. If the fabric is ancient and hand woven by a loom, it is priceless.
